Atom Developmental Program
The purpose of the Atom Development Program (ADP) is to offer girls aged 9-11 a safe and fun basketball environment. Aimed at improving their level of basketball play with an emphasis on developing skills, participation and having fun, this is done within a team concept.
The Atom Developmental Program concentrates on teaching fundamental basketball skills (dribbling, footwork, shooting, ball handling, passing, receiving, movement, agility) to players who are new to the sport or players who are interested in playing recreationally.
Location and Time:
The program runs on Saturdays from October- April.
9:00 AM - 4:00 pm (teams participate in a 2 hour time slot within the 9-4 period)
Farley Mowat Public School
Program Emphasis:
The Atom Development program is comprised of both practice sessions and league play in which the team play other BGBA Atom Development teams, and on occasion house league teams from other clubs. The skill development will be taught in the context of a number of drills, individual work and games the players will participate in during each session.
Teams will practice one week and then participate in a house league game the following week. Optional practice sessions may also be held throughout the week for girls who have the time and desire to advance their skill level. The teams will also participate in a December tournament against area clubs as well as a year end BGBA tournament.
Each practice is 2 hours in length in which the girls will work on various skills with their coach as well as participate in a team scrimmage in which they will be able to put their skills into practice.
Every other week the teams will play games against another house league team. The games will be 32 minutes stop time, comprised of 8 – four minute shifts. The fair play policy will be enforced. The game starting times are 9:00, 10:30, 12:00 and 1:30. In total the team will participate in approximately 10 games, 10 practices and two tournaments over the course of the year.
