Major Atom Competitive Program 2009-10

The Atom Competitive program is intended to provide girls (aged 10,11) who have a passion for the game with an environment where they can develop their basketball skills and team play. The team is coached by a fully certified Basketball Ontario coach whose goal is to help the player and team reach their full potential.

The team will participate in the Eastern Ontario Basketball Association (with FIBA and Ontario Basketball Association rules) as well as a number of tournaments throughout the year. The level of commitment by players and parents is high with the team playing anywhere from 40-50 games per year with at least 2 out of town tournaments as well as participation in the Ontario Basketball Association Championships.

Try-Outs

Try-outs are conducted where the number of applicants for a team exceeds the spots available. Twelve players is the standard maximum roster size, unless the Executive grants an exemption. The coaching staff for each division conducts evaluations. Ball handling, shooting, physical capabilities, (speed, vertical leap, etc) and court skills (understanding of the game) are factors used to evaluate the player's relative skill level.

Players released from the competitive tryouts will be assigned to the atom development program.
